Massachusetts' unemployment rate rose a tenth of a point to 3.5% in October from 3.4% in September, according to data released Friday by the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. Massachusetts is below the national average of 3.7%. There are 3,614,500 residents in Massachusetts who are employed and 131,300 unemployed residents, according to the data. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates Massachusetts gained 9,800 jobs in October, which follows September's gain of 22,900 jobs.
