With the news Friday that Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey will not intervene to stop the closure of the birthing center at UMass Memorial Health's Leominster campus, the City of Leominster made a last-ditch effort to halt the closure, filing a lawsuit claiming the regulatory process has not been completed correctly. The lawsuit, filed in Worcester County Superior Court, asks for the court to issue an injunction stopping the closure, as well as ordering the hospital system and the Department of Public Health to complete various reports and findings.
